The new Caviness Varnished Oar can be found in the C.F. Martin & Co. General Catalog of 1900 as a standard offering in walnut, mahogany, maple, and cherry. With its long taper from 0.7 inches at the handle to a little over 0.3 inches at the tip, it is designed to cut through the water efficiently and provide quick boat control when rowing sculling or sweep rowing boats.
