The flame switch for Vulcan models 89, 90 and 92 grills is a replacement part that is a safety switch. It is designed to detect when the burner is in the lit position and turns off the gas supply if the flame becomes extinguished. This will protect against gas leaks, which could lead to an explosion. The parts number 00-819147 is stamped on the back of each flame switch.

The FLAME SWITCH for Vulcan lets the operator select from either a pilot flame selected or an open gas. By simply moving the knob from pilot to gas, and by pressing and releasing the lever quickly, it is then possible to have either 'blue' (flame) or 'no-blue' (smokeless) gas. The lever operates a switch that changes the position of the needle valve in the main gas channel to open or close off some of these gases.
