Hillfolk

Hillfolk is the story of what happens when an ambitious young man with a troubled past stumbles into the wild, dark heart of the American West and finds that in order to survive, he'll have to become someone else entirely.

The spirit moves through the band as it slaps its thigh and arches back to sing a soulful "Ho!" The warm, deep tones are coaxed from Joe Tatum's harmonica, while the notes of Robbie Crowell's flute come in clear but like the sound of wind through pines. The tambourine pops out a sassy rhythm, while the guitars join in the call and response of true African music. And if you notice anything missing . . . that's because there isn't a drummer in sight!

The most artistic, the most raucous, and by far the best-dressed guitar and mandolin outfit to ever come out of Southern California's San Fernando Valley or Portland's Alberta Music scene.

Following in the tradition of Joan Baez and Tom Rush, PELD01 is a songwriter cut from classic cloth: simple, haunting, elemental. Formed during guitarist Pat Druckenmiller's stint in Eastern Oregon's Blue Mountain Forest--an experimental music sanctuary tucked in the western folds of the Cascade Mountains--PELD01's first offering marks an astounding creative debut. A humble cabin studio perched on a hillside above the forest became PELD01's recording home and center of gravity, and over two weeks in summer 2013, the band--completed by bassist Sue Cook and drummer Chris Widener--b
