Helicoil R1185-6 3/8-16 Threaded Inserts General purpose, flat bottomed, Loose inserts for blind holes. A free running insert should be used to prevent possible seizing of the insert. Typically installed using a tool designed for the specific application. The main tap hole should _NOT_ be reamed prior to installation.

The one of the most common uses for a helicoil is to install an insert into a stripped hole. The plug creates a place for a new thread to start and is lined with tool steel.

Coil drills are designed to drill holes within the tapped hole after threads have been damaged or removed. They are made from the same grade of steel as industrial quality taps and are used when an exact hole thread match is not required. The inserts are available in special hardening and tempering processes providing optimal performance for certain applications.
