Sheaves are primarily used for fairleads and blocks. Sheaves are made of bronze, galvanized steel, aluminum or stainless steel. The sheave is a rotating part mounted on a shaft to provide line support and/or protection from chafing. The sheave is designed with an opening (circular groove) at the bottom to guide the line up and down the sheave body. The line would enter through the side of the groove and exit through a hole in the center of one end.
