It has a negative temperature coefficient of resistance that linearly varies with temperature. This high-performance thermistor is intended for use in water or steam at temperatures up to 40°C (104°F).

The 10K ohm NTC Type III Water Temperature Sensor from Honeywell is designed to provide accurate and reliable temperature measurements of thermostat wiring in small-flow (0.5 in. or less) applications. The NTC Type III sensor is a high quality sensor with self-heating capability, interchangeable probes that allows the application of various sensing means, and automatic shutdown upon sensing abnormal conditions such as over-temperature, over-current or short-circuit. The sensor has a long life rating of more than 20 years when operated at a full battery voltage.
