The screws can be installed with either side up so you can adjust them for ease of access. If the hinge has an extension on one side it should be placed on the side of the casing or door that is opposite your hand when you open it. If there is no extension, place the hinge with the screw holes away from the edge of the casing (inset) with standard placement.
