The driven disk brake has a solid disk on the wheel side of the pulley and a sliding caliper on the opposite end. The caliper is attached to a support bracket that's held in place by a spring in front of the axle. The spring allows for regreasing of the caliper and lets one side of the bracket move with respect to the axle as the wheel turns. On some designs, rebound springs may be added for mounting at one or both ends of the brake assembly.
