A Pilot Light Switch is usually used in conjunction with a pilot light, the simplest form of gas control for a gas furnace or other fuel-burning appliance. A lever switch operates as an ordinary momentary contact (SPST) button switch. When the wall switch is activated, the lever arm pivots on a shaft below, sliding it into contact with the lower flexible metal strip. The flexible strip conducts electricity to the pilot pipe when gas is present and lights the pilot.
