"Yes, this motor is designed to fail if you overload it. I've wired these motors up before and they are really interesting (I'd say kind of elegant). They have four windings in series with an integrated current limiting circuit that disengages for a short time when the stall torque is exceeded, causing the motor to quit, then reengage when the motor has had enough 'rest'. This has something to do with keeping the copper wire from melting in the windings. This type of circuit is pretty common in motors up to 1/4hp. Better to have a 1/6 or 1/8hp

This is a US Motors 5460 Nidec with Frame, Sprockets and Chain. Particularly well suited for intermittent duty such as conveyor drive.

This product gave the best of both worlds… Its got the high speed range, but also accommodated under 1000 RPM. I was able to get this so inexpensively that I started to wonder why???   So I called up US Motors to find out what the heck was happening. Turns out that this motor was designed for commercial juicers! Hmmm.... yeah :) This means there is a small gap between the bearings that have been oiled from manufacturing not completely wiped clean. This is NOT an issue and you should NOT worry about it.
