Time Delay Relay

Time Delay Relay -- 42-21593-01 -- is an easy to install replacement part that can help protect your outdoor heating and cooling system from costly repairs. When installed in the outdoor unit of your refrigerator and other systems to keep them running during a power outage, the Time Delay Relay provides users with peace of mind.

The Time Delay Relay is used to delay the start of selected appliances when an AC power failure occurs. The starting time cannot be adjusted during operation. As soon as AC power is restored, the delayed appliance will restart with the same settings that were stored in memory and continue to operate normally. If no memory button is pressed, that appliance will not restart after a power failure.

The Time Delay Relay is used on some of Rheem's indoor and outdoor air conditioning units from 2005 to present. This relay regulates the compressor from restarting right after the condenser fan has turned off. The relay allows sufficient time for refrigerant gas to clear lines and valves before the compressor starts up again.

The Time Delay Relay provides a relay for the larger high capacitance electronically commutated motors used on refrigeration compressors. With this relay it is possible to automatically cycle the power to the motor when compressor demand is low and, therefore, motor overload conditions are minimal. When a call for cooling is made the compressor automatically cycles at a time delay interval chosen by the installer. The time delay setting is factory set so there is no adjustment required.

The time delay relay is used to operate an outdoor fan motor by day and the compressor run capacitor by night. Provides the dual emergency protection and maximum cooling in case of power failure.

If you struggle with frozen pipes or frost buildup on your water lines during cold weather, a time-delay relay can be an economical way to regulate water flow and prevent damage. Water hammer is the sudden banging noise you hear just as the shower shuts off—caused by a sharp drop in water pressure resulting from the quick closing of a valve. A time-delay relay should eliminate this problem, and it's a handy device to have around the house for other applications, too.
