The pilot orifice for RHEEM natural gas water heaters is designed to keep the pilot flame and water circulating in the heater's tank at safe levels. It also prevents exhaust from backing up in tanks that have been converted into unvented hot water tanks.

Your Rheem, Janitrol, or Ruud gas furnace is equipped with a Pilot Orifice. This orifice is made of brass and has no moving parts. It’s purpose is to regulate the gas supply to your pilot burner. If this orifice is obstructed, it will cause your gas flame to overflow along the base of the heat exchanger.

Add this pilot orifice to your furnace to increase efficiency and improve thermal performance.

The pilot orifice is used on the gas valve for Natural or LP applications. If your heater will not stay lit, you may need to replace the orifice.
