This is a crank shaft sensor for a 2007-2013 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra. This sensor is used to detect if the crankshaft is turning too fast. If the sensor detects that the crankshaft is turning too fast, it will send a signal to the engine control module to slow the engine down.
