This set includes a deck of 78 cards centered around familiars, pets, animal companions, and other special allies. The classic Rider-Waite Tarot card deck is used as the basis for this set and provides a rich foundation for Lisa's artwork. 95% of the cards in the Tarot: Familiars are in full color.

The spirit of the Familiars collection is to inspire those individuals who have never tried Tarot to seek out their own personal relationship with this magical practice. Lisa Parker's illustrations are whimsical and magical, designed to appeal to those who have always believed that their inner magus was waiting patiently to be summoned.

Tarot: Familiars is a really cool deck, and in my opinion, it is an example of what you might call "street tarot." It doesn't have that Wiccan look to it, thank heavens. I can't stand wicca. (In fact, I'm not sure how well tarot meshes with wicca. I could be wrong here.) This is more sort of street level.

The Tarot deck I created for The Game of Familiars are based on the rich local myths and folkore of Japan, and complemented with stories of witches that are familiar to me. All of our main familiars in the game and deck are based on these stories, when they were alive, when they became familiars, etc., to create a very rich history between them.

In tarot, the major arcana cards represent the big lessons in life. But what about the animals, creatures, and bogeymen that lurk beneath our beds? What kinds of lessons can THEY teach us?
