The FUSIBLE PLUG is designed to be installed between a branch circuit and the load. It interrupts power in the event of a ground fault or overload. During fault conditions it acts as a RESISTOR to prevent dangerous overcurrent from entering building wiring or equipment. The plug is also used in the same way to interrupt power in equipment under test or repair

The Carrier of Carrier Transicold evaporator coils are composed in part of stainless steel fusible plugs. The purpose of these fusible plugs, when exposed to excessive heat, is to melt allowing the flammable refrigerant gas to be released and reduce the risk of fire. When these fusible plugs have been used and there is potential for refrigerant gas leakage, such as when removing the line clip, replace with new fusible plug before recharging.
