The current relay offers protection for power wiring as opposed to the base coil's protection of the refrigeration system alone.

The Copeland™ Current Relay allows for automatic switching between different types of plug-in electrical loads. It features a wide range of control options that meets the needs of most system applications, including programmable delay, repetition rate and extended limits switch. The Current Relay can be used to manage medium and high voltage electronic ballasts for fluorescent lamps, electric motors, pumps and resistive heating devices in commercial refrigeration equipment.

The portable 940-0088-04 Current Relay provides electrical signal isolation or replacement on a refrigeration machine. Use it to protect the compressor from damage caused by current leakage, allow a machine to be shut off without affecting other systems (such as fans or alarms), and for ice makers and heat exchangers.
