American Standard vs. Carrier

American Standard has a wide range of central air conditioners to choose from. Their HVAC units have variable speed; they are energy-efficient and come in two-stage units as well. The best performing air conditioner for households uses the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of up to 22. The higher the rate, the better. They operate quietly and have varying cooling stages. This unit had the most energy star for being efficient in 2019.

American Standard also provides three different AC unit series for the home: the Platinum series, Gold series and the Silver series. The Silver series is the most affordable of the three for household usage.

Advantages of American Standard

  1. These units are reliable and are known to have advanced technology.
  2. The HVAC units are energy efficient with up to 22 SEER.
  3. The American Standard units have warranties of up to 10 or 12 years.
  4. All the units that are produced by American Standard have been proven to provide consistent comfort.

Disadvantages of American Standard

  1. The best systems of this brand are quite expensive.
  2. These units are quiet but not the quietest of all the units in the market currently.

Carrier
was founded in 1915 and later sold to United Technologies in 1979. From 2020, the company has since been an independent firm. Carrier contains household units, commercial units, HVAC units and ventilation units.

The highest SEER for the Carrier units is up to 26. However, some units have 20 and 21 SEER ratings together with an EER of 16.5.

The topmost range of the carrier AC units has Greenspeed Intelligence as a feature. This system has an advantage over others as they include major energy savings and great comfort features such as ultra-quietness.

The two top ACs are Energy Star certified like most of the top central air conditioners. There are three main AC units for the Carrier Company; the Infinity series, the middle range series and the cheaper series known as the comfort series. All of these are top choices suitable for household use.

Advantages of Carrier

  1. Greenspeed Intelligence is an advanced innovation technology that makes the brand efficient.
  2. Units with a SEER up to 26 and an EER of 16.5 are very energy efficient.
  3. The AC units are ultra-quiet.

Disadvantages of Carrier

  1. The warranties only cover limited parts.
  2. The top of the range systems is more expensive.

Comparison of features based on:

SEER rating
For the American Standard, the most energy-efficient of the air conditioning units has a SEER of 22. Also, the air condition unit that is the quietest has a SEER of 18. The one that has the best value has a SEER of up to 16. On the other hand, the Carrier Infinity series has a SEER of up to 26, which gives them a competitive advantage over the American Standard units. The performance that the Comfort series provides is rated from up to 17 and 16.

Sound performance
The top products from both the American Standard and the Carrier companies have a system that falls into the 50-60 decibel range.

Coil materials
The Carrier AC models use either traditional copper tubing which is joined to aluminum fins or new aluminum coils. These coils are what transfers heat to increase comfort levels. On the other hand, the American standard coils are made using grade copper tubes together with aluminum coils. The aluminum coil is one of the best materials to use since they are more durable and corrosion-resistant as compared to other materials.

Installation process
American Standard and Carrier recommend using only certified contractors. A good example is the North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certified dealers.

Warranties
Both American Standard and Carrier have a similar warranty on limited parts. The American Standard units have a 10 or 12-year limited warranty. The Carrier units, on the other hand, come with a warranty for parts that last for up to 10 years.

Standout features
The American Standard AC, i.e. the Infinity series, is the most advanced among the American Standard ACs. It gives the users the capacity to make infinite adjustments between 25% and 100%. The Carrier ACs have a sound performance that is top-notch. The design of this AC Silencer System II reduces the noise levels to a very low degree.
