WARNING

To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire or injury to persons, you must observe the following:

  1. Strictly use this unit as intended by the manufacturer. If you have any queries, you can contact the manufacturer using the address and the telephone number that is provided in the warranty.
  2. Always switch off the power supply at the service panel before cleaning or servicing the unit. Ensure that the service so as to prevent power from being accidentally switched on. When the service disconnecting means fail to lock, you can fasten any of the prominent warning devices, for example, a tag to the service panel.
  3. It is recommended that all the electrical wiring and the installation work is done purely by a qualified person in accordance with all the applicable codes and standards. These codes include fire-rated construction codes as well as standards.
  4. The unit requires sufficient water for proper combustion and exhausting of gasses through the flue of fuel burning equipment in order to avoid backdrafting. Use the manufacturer’s heating equipment guideline and safety standards for example those that are published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the American Society for Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) as well as the local code authorities.
  5. Whenever you cut or drill into the wall or ceiling, be very careful so that you do not damage the electrical wiring or any other hidden utilities.
  6. Always ensure that the ducted fans are vented to the outdoors.
  7. These Broan units are applicable to use over tubs or showers when they are connected to a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) which is a protected branch circuit.
  8. Make sure that the unit is grounded.

Operation

You will need to use a 1 or 2-function wall control to operate the Broan humidity sensor and the Broan bath fan. Under no circumstances should you operate the Broan humidity control or light using a dimmer switch.

How to Operate the Broan Humidity Sensor

The Broan humidity sensing fan normally responds to the following:

  • Rapid and moderate humidity increase.
  • Humidity levels of up to 50%-80% relative humidity (RH) set point.

While the environmental conditions keep changing, the fan may turn on accordingly. Whenever the fan continuously responds to the changing environmental conditions, you will be required to make ‘HUMIDITY’ adjustments.

Status indicator: This is an indicator that can only be interpreted by looking directly at it. The normal mode stays on and off for about five seconds. Check the sensor connections that are on the grille and fan housing if it keeps on blinking rapidly for five seconds on and off.

Manual on with timed off: This helps with the vapor and odor control. In this case, the fan is usually energized by cycling its wall-mounted switch if at all you installed one before. Whenever you turn the fan on in this way, it will remain on for the number of ‘MINUTES’ set period time frame. You can energize the fan by doing the following:

  1. Turn the switch on for a second or more. If it is already on, then proceed to step number two.
  2. Switch the fan back off but this time for less than a second.
  3. Switch the fan back on and let it stay as such.

How to Adjust the Humidity

‘Humidity’ is usually a factory setting in most of the shower applications of the fan. You may be required to reduce the humidity to 50% RH especially if the fan that you have is used for the control of dampness. If your fan’s control responds too often to the changing environmental conditions, adjust the humidity towards 80% RH. To be able to adjust the humidity, you should do the following:

  1. Turn off the power at the main electrical service panel.
  2. Locate the screwdriver slot for the humidity through the Broan fan grille.
  3. Use a flathead screwdriver and then rotate the humidity adjustment towards 50 or further to 80.
  4. Turn on the power at the main electrical service panel back on and then observe to check on the operation of the fan. Turn the shower on or any other nearby humidity source all the way until the fan turns back on.

How to Adjust the Timer

The Broan humidity sensor fans have a timer that can be adjusted by the users from 5 to 60 minutes. The factory setting is always set at 20 minutes. The timer controls the amount of time that the fan remains on; either after the humidity rises or when the humidity level is below the user-adjustable ‘humidity’ setting. It also controls how long the fan stays on after it is energized by the cycling power switch. In order to be able to adjust the timer:

  1. Disconnect the power at the main electrical service panel.
  2. Locate the ‘minutes’ slot where a screwdriver can fit using the grille.
  3. Use a flathead screwdriver and rotate the ‘minutes’ adjustment to the setting that you require and do it carefully. This would be about 5-60 minutes.
  4. Check how the cycling power switch is operating by turning on another source of humidity until the fan turns back on.
  5. Use a timer to check on the timer setting immediately after you have turned the alternative humidity source back on.
