Are you trying to install your Broan PM390 range hood? Here is an installation guide below!

To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or injury to persons, observe the following:

  • Use the device as per the manufacturer's guidelines. If you have any questions, get in touch with the manufacturer for help.
  • Before you clean or service the unit, switch off the power from the socket and lock the service panel disconnecting means.
  • Electrical wiring and installation work should be done by qualified personnel according to all standards and applicable codes such as fire-rated construction codes.
  • Ensure enough air for proper combustion and exhausting of gas through the chimney to avoid back-drafting. Observe the manufacturer's heating equipment safety standards and guidelines, National Fire Protection Association, the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, and local code authorities.
  • When drilling or cutting into ceiling or wall, do not interfere with electrical wiring and other hidden components.
  • Ducted fans should be vented to the outside.
  • Avoid using this device with any separate solid-state speed control equipment.
  • To minimize the dangers of fire, use only metal ductwork.
  • This device should be well-grounded.
  • Ensure you put on safety glasses and gloves when installing, cleaning, or servicing the unit.

  • To minimize the dangers of a range top grease fire:

    • Do not leave the surface of the equipment unattended at high settings. Boilovers cause greasy spillovers and smoking that may lead to fire outbreaks. Heat oils slowly on medium or low settings.
    • Always switch hood ON when flambéing food such as Cherries Jubilee, Crepes Suzette etc. or when cooking at high heat.
    • You should clean ventilating fans regularly. Do not allow grease to accumulate on the filter or fan.
    • Use the correct paper pan size.

To minimize the dangers of injury to persons in the event of a range top grease fire:

    • Never pick up a flaming pan as you may get burned.
    • Smoother flames with a cookie sheet, metal tray, or a close-fitting lid, then switch off the burner. If the flame does not disappear immediately, leave and call the fire department.
    • Do not use water, including wet towels or dishcloths, as it may result in a violent steam explosion.
    • Use a fire extinguisher if:
    1. You have a class ABC extinguisher, and you know how it is operated.
    2. You contact the fire department.
    3. The fire is small and controlled from where it started.
    4. You can contain the fire with your back to an exit.

    Installing the Ductwork

Caution: Use only metal ductwork to reduce the risk of fire.

    • Select where the ductwork should run between the outside and the hood.
    • A short, straight duct run will help the hood work most efficiently.
    • Larger ducting will result in the best performance with longer duct runs, while long duct runs, transitions, and elbows may reduce the device's performance. Therefore, you should use a few of them.
    • Install roof cap or wall cap. Connect metal ductwork to the cap. You can use a 2" metal foil duct to cover the connections between duct sections.

    Optional Liners

For installations in areas with the power module above the cooktop by less than 30", it is advisable to have the power module fixed into a metal liner. This allows for easy cleaning and offers protection to the cabinetry. Be sure you have the linear model that corresponds to your cabinet style and width.

    Prepare the Cabinet

You should fix the model inside the cabinet at a distance of not less than 1" from the cabinet's rear wall. If you are using the optional liners, use them as a template to drill a hole in the bottom of the cabinet.

    • The internal height of your cabinet should be at least 16".
    • The hood should be fixed at the center of the cooktop burners.
    • If your cabinet does not have a bottom, choose a different mounting in the INSTALL THE POWER MODULE.
    1. Drill a hole at the bottom of the cabinet using the optional linear as a template or the given dimensions.
    2. Fix two woodblocks of 2½ by 10¼ inside the cabinet, on the right and left sides of the hole, four mounting screws (comes with the liner), secure the liner.

    Installing the Power Module

    • Take out the grease filter by pushing its latch lab down and rotating the filter downward.
    • Place the filter aside.
    • Remove the parts bag and the damper from the power module.
    • Remove the electrical cover (gray part) from the power module by loosening its retaining screws. Slide the cover to be able to detach its hook from the power module wall. Place the cover and its screws in a safe place.
    • Connect the house power cable from the service panel to the power module location. Fix about the two-inch length of the power cable inside the cabinet. Connect the power cable to the power module with about 7/8" diameter strain relief.
    • For ducted installation, slide the damper inside the blower discharge through the hole on top of the power module.
    • Place the power two screws per side.

    Connect Ductwork

    Ducted Installation

Using a six-inch round metal duct, join the blower discharge to the ductwork. Secure and airtight all the joints using metal foil tape.

    Non-Ducted Installation

For non-ducted installation, you need the 360NDK non-duct kit. The kit is not included in the unit. To install, follow the guidelines provided in the unit manual.

    Installing the Filter

Connect the non-ducted filter to the back of the grease filter using clips. The filter is packed with the 360NDK non-duct kit. You can get a new non-duct filter from Broan or other online and offline stores.
