Broan Replacement Light Lens

How to Install the Housing

Here is a guide on how to install the housing of the Broan replacement grille and light lens:

1. Slide the adjustable mounting brackets inside the channels that are on the sides of the housing.

2. Pick the location where you want your Broan fan/light in the ceiling. The shortest duct run and the minimum number of elbows are the options that can provide the best possible performance. The bottom edge of the brackets should be slightly above the bottom edge of the joists.

3. The mounting brackets should be positioned against the joist. Mark the keyhole on the mounting bracket.4. Proceed to set the housing aside. Then drive the nails inside the joist partially at the top of both of the keyhole marks that you made earlier.

5. Ensure the housing is hanging off the nails before pounding the nails tight in place. You can further tighten the bracket channels against the mounting brackets to make sure that there is less or no noise on the mount.

6. To adjust the vertical housing position, you need to loosen the screws that are on both sides of the housing. Make sure that the adjustments line up with the mark that indicates your finished ceiling. You can achieve this by moving the housing up and down. Tighten the screws and ensure that they are completely secure.

How to work with the existing construction

1. Choose the location where you want your Broan replacement grille and light lens in the ceiling. It is recommended that you use the shortest duct for the best performance and a minimum number of elbows as well.

2. Position the desired location in the attic to place the housing. Trace the outline shape of the housing onto your ceiling material.

3. Set the housing aside and then cut open the ceiling to a much larger shape than the one you marked before.

4. Put the housing in the opening that you have cut open in the previous step. The mounting brackets should go against the joist and the joist should go through the keyhole on both sides. Secure the bracket channels directly around the mounting brackets to create a noise-free mount.

5. To adjust the vertical housing position, you need to loosen the screws that are on both sides of the housing. Make sure that the adjustments line up with the mark that indicates your finished ceiling. You can achieve this by moving the housing up and down. Tighten the screws and ensure that they are completely secure.

How to Install the Duct Work

The Broan duct connector usually contains a damper flap that is counterbalanced.

The flap should then be opened approximately 1” right when the Broan duct connector is attached to the housing. The unit is made to allow insulation to be in direct contact with the fan/light housing per Underwriters Laboratories standards. Any form of backdraft will surely cause the damper flap to close which will further prevent air from penetrating inside the unit or the finished space around it.

How to install the ductwork on the Broan replacement grille and light lens:

1. The duct should connect right onto the housing. The slots that are on the housing should be locked into the tabs that are on the connector. The top of the duct and the top of the housing should be aligned. Note, however, the damper flap should always be inside the Broan duct connector. Squeeze both the top and the bottom of the connector to be able to snap the flap back into the correct position.

2. The 4” round duct should be connected to the duct connector, and the duct should be extended outside through a roof or wall cap. Then tape all the duct connections to secure them enough for them to be airtight.

How to Connect the Wiring

The correct way to do the wiring is by running the electrical cable to the unit as direct as possible. Under no circumstances should the cable touch the sides or the top of the unit after you are done with the installation.

How to Attach the Grille

  1. Slide the reflector to the front of the Broan replacement grille opening. Then plug the light into a white receptacle. Place the grille inside over the screw that is protruding and secure it in place with an acorn nut that is provided. Hand-tighten the acorn nut up to about ¼ of a turn until it is completely snug.
  2. Install a light bulb (not included in the kit). On the slot that is in the reflector combination/grille, insert one tab on the light lens. Squeeze the other tab and then snap the remaining slot.

Cleaning

How to Clean the Lens and the Grille

Uninstall the Broan replacement grille and light lens and bulb. Remove the nut that is at the center of the reflector and on the lower assembly. Be careful though, since the grille and the reflector are two separate units. Unplug the light of the white receptacle. Use mildly soapy water to clean all the plastic components of the unit. Afterwards, dry the unit using a clean, soft piece of cloth. Do not clean the unit using an abrasive cloth, scouring powders or steel wool pads.

How to Clean the Fan Assembly

Unplug the fan assembly.

Removing the Broan motor plate:

Locate the single tab that is on the motor plate right next to the receptacle. Push the motor plate while simultaneously pushing out the side of the housing. Vacuum the interior of the housing, the Broan motor as well as the vacuum fan gently. You should never immerse metallic and electrical parts in water.
