Delta Roman Tub Faucet Repair

Delta Roman Tub faucets are prone to leaks. It is important to fix a drip immediately to save both water and resources. You may choose to hire a professional plumber to do it for you, or you may fix the leaks as an easy DIY project.

Most of the leaks are usually caused by the Delta faucet seats and springs. This is quite an easy project to fix as a DIY.

This process should work for Delta kitchen faucets, Delta bathroom faucets, and Delta shower and tub valves. However, these instructions are only applicable to Delta faucets that contain a ball valve assembly with seats and springs except those faucets with DIAMOND Seal Technology.

Tools:

A 1/8” Allen wrench

A pair of Needle-nose pliers

Tongue-and-groove pliers

A Screwdriver

Any replacement parts if needed Note: If you have a lever-handle style product, you need RP61 replacement parts. If you have a knob handle, you need RP188 replacement parts.

How to Easily Fix a Dripping/Leaky Delta Faucet

1. This includes both hot and cold water supply valves that are situated under the sink. Drain the last of the water remaining in your Delta faucet by turning it on. Make sure that all the water drains out of the water supply lines completely before you begin.2. You can use an Allen wrench or a screwdriver to remove the screw on the faucet handle. Remove the faucet handle by lifting it out.3. This step will not be applicable if the Delta faucet does not contain adjusting rings. However, if you have the older Delta faucet version that has an adjusting ring, you will not need it after you have repaired your Delta faucet since you will eventually replace the cam and packing.

Take a look at the Delta faucet cap and adjust the ring to inspect it. If the leak originates from this point, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to tighten the adjusting ring. If this fails to stop the leak, it is recommended that you replace the seats and springs from your Delta faucet.

1. Unscrew the adjusting ring at its original position to be able to remove it. Afterwards, place a dry clean piece of cloth to get a grip using a pair of tongue-and-groove pliers to unscrew the cap that has a dome shape. Avoid using too much pressure to remove the cap since you may end up bending and damaging it.

2. Pull the round metal stem out of the Delta faucet assembly. Then remove the ball, followed by the cam and packing piece. If the leakage originates from this point, replace the Delta cam and packing to stop the leak.

3. If you inspect inside the valve, you should see the seat and springs. The seat is the circular one and the spring is the part that is right beneath the seat. An Allen wrench should help you to pry the Delta seat and springs out for both the hot and the cold water supply lines.

4. Pry the faucet aerator out. Turn the hot and cold water on to flush out any dirt that may be in the water supply lines. Let the water run for about a minute. If you are fixing a Delta kitchen or bathroom faucet, place a bucket in an upside-down position over the top of the faucet to help in directing the water down to the sink otherwise the water will spray everywhere. Before you reassemble the Delta faucet, turn off the water to the supply lines.

5. The new Delta faucet comes with a set of seats and springs that you must insert into the holes. Thread one side of the set onto the Allen wrench through the flat side of the seat. It should then go through the skinny end of the spring. Tip the Delta seat and spring into the hole into the Delta faucet valve using an Allen wrench. Do the same to the other set.

6. Replace the Delta faucet ball assembly by aligning the pin and the valve with the slot that is available on the ball.

7. The next step involves replacing the cam and packing by aligning the tab that is on the cam with the slot that is available on the valve.

8. Use your hand to gently screw the cap onto the valve. Replace the Delta adjusting ring and then tighten it using a pair of needle-nose pliers. Put the handle back into place.

9. Turn the water back on to inspect if there are any other leaks or if you have fixed the current problem.
