How to Install The American Standard Heat Pump

Follow this guide to learn how to install the American Standard heat pump.

Safety Precautions

Is it not the manufacturer’s responsibility, nor are they liable, in how this guide is interpreted. Any efforts to install a heat pump unit could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Take all the safety precautions necessary.

Where to Install a Heat Pump

Pick a location that is capable of alleviating the vibration and sound transmission to a home (or any other building).

Choosing a location:

  1. Make sure that the top to the discharge area is unrestricted for at least 5 feet above the unit.

  2. At the front or side of the control box, make sure there is at least 3 feet of clearance space.

  3. Install the heat pump unit in a location in which noise produced by the unit will not disturb the building's occupants.

  4. Place the unit at least 12 inches from anything surrounding it, including walls and shrubs. This will ease the airflow process to and from the unit.

  5. We recommend not placing the unit near a place where there could be condensed air and fog, such as a window.

  6. Do not place your heat pump in an area that can be exposed to the excess roof runoff water or icicles. This will damage the unit.

  7. If you want to install a heat pump on a roof, ensure that the roof can easily accommodate the unit’s full weight.

Preparing the heat pump unit for installation

  1. Inspect your unit for any damages. If there are damages, make sure they are resolved with the carrier.

  2. Using a sharp tool, cut the tabs to remove the unit from the pallet.

How To Install The Unit

Prepare a concrete slab:

The location of the concrete slab should comply with the state code and local code.

  • The concrete slab should be at least 1 inch larger than the unit all around the base.

  • Make sure the concrete slab is leveled and allows for drainage.

  • Install the heat pump on the concrete slab.

American Standard Heat Pump Troubleshooting

After installation, ensure that the tubing has not shifted at any point while moving the unit. Adjust the tubing to make sure they do not rub against each other. Tighten the wiring securely.
