How to Install the Hansgrohe Thermobalance Valve Thermoelement
- Use an Allen wrench that is about 3mm to loosen the set screw that is located on the faucet handle.
- Remove the trim and make sure you put it in a place where it is completely safe so that you do not misplace or damage it.
- Close the stops on the faucet using an Allen wrench (also about 3mm).
- If the valve is not made with stops, shut off the water at the main supply point.
How to Remove a Thermoelement
- At the back of the thermoelement, there is usually a blue sealing gasket. Ensure that it remains there and if at all it is stuck inside the valve rough, pull it out carefully.
- For the retainer plate and sleeve, remove them from the old element and install them on the new thermoelement.
- Install the new thermoelement in place of the old one on the valve.
ThermoPlus/Thermobalance I:
These two have both a positioning pin, which is on the back of the thermoelement and a locator tab. Make sure that the locator tab goes straight into the notch and the positioning pin into the positioning pin whole respectively.
The older versions of the ThermoPlus and the Thermobalance I roughs contain only one hole for the positioning pin and they do not contain a notch with which the locator tab goes into. If your rough is the older one, file the black plastic locator tab off of the newly purchased cartridge.
Be sure not to damage the cartridge in the process of installation.
Install the new cartridge. Make sure that the positioning pin aligns with the hole so that the cartridge does not get damaged.
Thermobalance II and Thermobalance III:
The locator tab should go straight into the notch. For all the models of Thermobalance, tighten the cartridge retainer plate screws evenly using a manual screwdriver, in a diagonal pattern.
Turn the water supply back on and check for possible leaks. Reinstall the trim back to its original position.
How to Set the High-Temperature Limit Stop
Turn on the water of the faucet using the handle and remove the handle. Remove both the clip and stop ring from the stem of the faucet.
Keep turning the stem until the water flowing from the faucet is the desired temperature of about 110 degrees Fahrenheit. When you turn it clockwise, the water gets cooler, while the counterclockwise motion makes the water warmer.
Reinstall the stop ring against the stop, and then reinstall the clip back to its previous position.
How to Set the Maximum High Temperature (specifically for Thermoplus)
- Install the handle of the faucet and tighten the screw that is on it.
- Turn the handle to the left as far as it can go, and then remove the faucet handle.
- Turn the stem until the water that flows out is of the desired temperature, which is about 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Reinstall the handle back to its original position and then tighten the set screw that is on it. Turn the handle to the position and the water temperature should be set.
How to Justify the Faucet Handle for Thermobalance I, II and III
- Place a thermometer in the water stream after turning the water on using the faucet. Turn the knob that is used to control the temperature of the water until the water is about 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Using the lever of the Hansgrohe handle, turn the water off completely. Remove the faucet handle off of the valve.
- Turn the knob that controls water temperature about ½ a turn in a clockwise manner and then turn it back counterclockwise until it is straight up and down, and it hits the 100 degrees Safety Stop. Do not press inward on the knob at any point in time.
- Reinstall the faucet handle back to its original position and tighten the screw that is on it.
