The switch is a light rocker switch that controls power to one or two loads. A DPST switch has two circuits and is used where two separate operations are to be controlled by one control. For example, light and fan can be controlled from the same wall switch. The first circuit controls the fan; the second circuit controls the light. In order to turn off both circuits with one operation, a DPST switch is used. When C1 (Circuit 1) contacts are closed, current passes through R1 and into C2 terminals at all times, when C2 (Circuit 2) contact is open.
