The United Aqua Group 004817B Ignition Control is a gas ignition control valve for natural gas and propane. It has been used in residential heating and cooling systems since December 1988. The igniters of this heater use an electrode to ignite the fuel. An igniter electrode has two contacts: an exposed metal portion, called the tip, and a solid portion, called the base. The tip is where electrical current is applied when the heater is operating. This part reaches temperatures ranging from 850 F (454 C) to 1300 F (704 C). The base stays cool until it turns red during operation.
