A TXV (Thermostatic Expansion Valve) is a device used in standard central air conditioners to conserve energy and improve efficiency. When the outdoor temperature is high, the valve controls airflow to the indoor air conditioner compressor to protect it from excessive wear. The TXV's body consists of a sensing bulb and a fluid chamber, separated by two plugs. Fluid in the sensing bulb expands when hot, pushing out plugs and opening the valve when outdoor temperatures exceed approximately 80 degrees.
