A pressure switch is an inexpensive component that, along with a temperature-pressure relief valve and a gas thermostat, helps protect your hot water heater. The pressure switch allows the thermostat to control the burner in stages. If there is a loss of water to the tank or if the temperature-pressure relief valve opens, the pressure switch will stop burner operation. When the loss of flow is corrected, the switch will reset automatically once it senses the normal pressure conditions again.
Rheem hot water heaters utilize a pressure switch to ensure safe delivery of hot water. Pressure switches generally last about 10 years, and are inexpensive and easy to replace.
