A pressure switch is an electrical component used to detect changes in pressure. The sensing element of a pressure switch usually consists of a flexible metal diaphragm sealed between two contact plates. The detection principle of a pressure switch is that the separating force between its contacts depends on the pressure applied to the sensing element. In particular, there is a minimum separating force (gap) at which the contacts are opened. This minimum gap is adjustable by varying the deflection of the spring presses  or preloading one or both contacts against each other.
