It is used with a deadbolt strike or faceplate and contains a re-key feature that allows you to change the key to your own custom key code so that there is no need to replace the entire lock in case you lose your key. This lock features a manual deadbolt with a throw bolt position in which the bolt retracts into the case when unlocked. It also has mechanical internal locking, which allows the cylinder to be rotated without having to physically manipulate the bolt.

A Schlage Commercial Everest 6 Pin mechanical keying cylinder is a pin-tumbler lock device that uses five pins (or wafers) to prevent the plug from rotating. The cylinder contains pins of different lengths that are staggered and stacked on top of each other, with each pin hole containing one pin. The key has six notches (or bittings) arranged at different angles, with each notch corresponding to a particular pin length and angle. This allows the plug to rotate only when all pins are fully raised.
