Our Baldwin 0102 190 Colonial Knocker is made of solid brass and designed to fit in a 2-1/8" backset lock. This Colonial Knocker is a solid brass construction of the highest order. Forged in fire and cast into brass molds, this product meets most manufacturer's specification. The 0102190 Colonial Knocker also comes with a lifetime warranty, is burglar resistant (the thumbturn extends all the way through the door, eliminating "give"), and has undergone extensive quality checks during production.

The Colonial Knocker is used as a calling, announcing or visitor's doorbell. In the late 1700's, homes had doors with holes bored into them for the Butler to open the door and announce visitors. The hanging of a Knocker on these doors became a distinct form of communication. A Knocker was used to announce visitors and guests. It became tradition in this period for the guest's visit to be announced by pulling on the bell rope three times in a specific rhythm. This rhythm was called "Pulling a Rope" or "Ringing a Bell"
