The LineVoltStat is a self-contained, bi-metal thermometer heat regulator that is designed to control heat output from resistance wire heating elements. It has a built in line voltage thermostat that senses current flow through the device grounds and controls the temperature of the line voltage to maintain constant current flow. The LineVoltStat provides a means of automatically limiting the maximum line voltage to 95% or 55% of nominal line voltage.

The White-Rodgers® 4981® series Line Voltage Thermostat is a single pole, three-wire, line voltage thermostat used to control a heating and cooling system. It has a built in mechanical temperature switch that rejects accidental switching. This model has an ambient temperature rating of 55°F - 95°F (12.7°C - 35°C) and an internal time set range of 85 minutes to 48 hours.

The 4981 has a room sensing switch for heating and cooling applications. The 4981 is approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for all systems incorporating it.

The 4981 line volt stat features a sintered bronze disc and a stainless steel bimetal element. It is used to control the flow of gas, oil, or air through gas-fired or oil-fired equipment at low to medium pressure temperatures. Venting is provided through the threaded top or bottom caps. The line voltage stat is rated at 95 degrees C (203 degrees F).
