The Ignitor is mounted between the gas control valve and the burner tube, protecting it from physical damage and preventing accidental cutoff. The Ignitor is energized by the cooking circuit (heat is transferred). When heat is applied to the rod at the tip of the Ignitor, an electric current passes through a wire mesh at the tip of the rod. This wire mesh ignites the gas mixture in the burner tube, which in turn lights the burners.
