Featuring an all-new positive-focused play style, Gloom Second Edition is packed with new cards and mechanisms that will quickly make your dreams of happy little tragedies come true!
Gloom is the collectible card game from Atlas Games that's been described as "Funerals with friends". You are a despondent person who's just realized that life is imperfect, people disappoint you, and things don't always go according to plan. So you'll get some revenge by bringing misery upon the cheerful, hopeful people in your life. As they count their blessings and embrace their dreams of a better future, you will unceremoniously end them with dire events like The Debt, Dolphin Stampede, and Bad Breakup.
In Gloom, your goal is to make your family members as miserable as possible before your opponents do the same to you. You'll play horrible mishaps like Dysentery and Debt on to your family members' cards, making them feel sad, desperate, and alone. Just when they start to recover from one tragedy, you can play another to drive them back into the depths of despair! For example – the Suicide card features the text: "Play this on someone who has already had five Misfortune cards today."
Gloom is a card game of the macabre in which you try to achieve the worst circumstances for your characters. There are some who would call that torture. We call it "fun."
In Gloom, players assume the role of monsters who want the best for their families. The Family adds to the allure of each monster's personality and opposes the players in competitions as they work together against the player characters. Among these dark-hearted players are powerful vampires who wish to rule their families with an iron claw, controlling when and how offspring arise.
Aw, did someone forget to leave the lights on? In Gloom, you and up to four fellow players control adorable little characters who are trapped in a day-long cycle of death, despair, and unpleasant events.
While your friends and family gush over bright, colorful, fantasy worlds, you'd much rather explore a dark fantasy realm filled with despair and gloom. Gloom is the game for you!
