The Carrier HC95XX020 is a Thermistor-Start, 90% AFUE Carrier furnace featuring a 30" X 20" stainless steel heat exchanger and all of the options needed to keep your home comfortable.

A thermistor-start replaces the heat-sensitive element that is used in most types of furnace thermostats. Thermistor-start furnaces do not require heat-sensitive elements, which eliminates this major failure point and makes them more reliable than older furnace designs.

The Carrier HC95XX020 Thermistor-start Gas Furnace System is designed to heat your home in four easy steps. The first step in the heating process is to ignite the pilot light. The pilot lights are controlled by a thermistor, which when heated, completes the circuit needed to power the furnace blower and ignite the gas burner. The furnace then circulates air throughout your home, adding warmth and comfort.  The thermostat measures the temperature of the air being circulated throughout your home via a sensor known as a thermister and compares that temperature against your setpoint.

If your furnace has a thermistor-start, you must replace it with this part before installation. The thermistor is a safety device that causes the blower to shut off if its sensing element gets too hot. It can have multiple functions, including operation of the gas valve.

The Carrier® brand HC95XX020 Thermostat-Start Thermostat-Start Heating and Cooling System does not have to be mounted to a wall. It comes in a modular design and can also be used as a fan or pump. The heating and cooling system is designed for use with modern air conditioners and heat pumps.

This Carrier is professionally installed with a 4-way switch and 3 wire installation kit. The installer has wired up the thermostat for use with a 3-way switch or a wall mounted thermostat. This is a very simple job for any DYI'er.
