When the refrigerator goes into defrost, the frost in the evaporator coil or at the bottom of the refrigerated sections melts and flows out of the refrigerator over a period of time. A temperature-sensitive bimetal in an automatic defrost control device attached to the evaporator coil senses when enough frost has melted to reduce the temperature of the air at this location to that sensed by the bimetal. When this temperature differential occurs, the automatic defrost control device directs power from the main control board (MCD) to other parts of the defrost system enabling them to carry out their functions.
