COTTER PIN

This is a parts cotter pin that we pulled out of an old fishing reel. These parts are for the older style EHP/AYP reels but will fit in newer model reels as well. We don't have a picture of the part but you can see from the part # it's a cotter pin.

A cotter pin is a short metal pin used to retain a wheel on an axle or shaft. It was first patented in 1835 by John Thompson of England. The term "cotter pin" is a corruption of the original word "cotter", which comes from the Middle English word "coteren." A cotter key is a tool used to drive and remove cotter pins. A C-ring, also known as a castle key, is similar to, but larger than, a cotter key. C-rings are used to remove castle nuts from bolts.
