It has a hardened steel rotor shaft protected by an integral spur gear housing, Aluminum compressor housing with longevity ring end shields, Overload protection activates on high temperature or high current starting conditions to reduce the chance of motor failure. The 50HV uses one compressor starter. An external overload relay is required

The Carrier Model 298558 HD58FE653 is designed for use for a wide range of HVAC applications including air distribution, heating, cooling, packaged terminal heat pumps (PTHPs) and packaged rooftop units (PRUs). The scroll compressor is provided with scroll suction relief, motor protection capacitor, overload protection device(s), exhaust gas temperature disconnect device(s), liquid line solenoid valve (LLSIG), and high-pressure switch.

The Carrier HD Variable Speed Drive is a single phase unit that is suitable for driving stators and rotors in heat pumps, air conditioning, variable speed drives (VSD) and other applications. The HD employs a short circuit load protection function which starts a resetting timer if the short circuit current rises above a preset value. The integrated ALD module with HI-LO control provides excellent starting performance and allows the application of low starting voltage. The ALD control works also in the regenerative mode.
