Broan S120l Replacement

Warning

To minimize chances of electric shock, fire outbreak, or injury to people, observe the following:

  1. Before you clean or service the appliance, first switch off the power at the service panel and lock it. If the service panel cannot be locked, pin a notice tag on it.
  2. Ensure enough air to facilitate proper combustion and exhaustion of gasses through the chimney to avoid back-drafting.
  3. You should use this unit strictly as per the manufacturer's guidelines. Contact the manufacturer's customer service through the phone number imprinted in the warranty if you have any questions.
  4. Installation and electrical wiring work should be done by a specialist following all codes and standards.
  5. You should not fix ducted fans outdoors.
  6. As you drill or cut into the ceiling or wall, be careful not to damage the electrical wiring and other hidden components.
  7. This appliance can be used over a shower enclosure or tub if fixed in a GFCI secured branch circuit. The unit must be grounded.
  8. If you install this device over a tub or shower, ensure to make it appropriate for the application.
  9. Never install the switch close to the tub or shower.

Caution:

  1. This unit should only be installed in ceilings for up to 7/12 pitch and not in a wall. Also, you should not install it in a sloped ceiling. If so, ensure the ductwork points up.
  2. This product should only be used for general ventilation purposes. Please do not use it to exhaust explosive or harmful vapors and materials.
  3. To protect the bearing from damage and being noisy or unbalanced impellers, keep construction dust, drywall spray, etc., away from the power unit.
  4. Read the specification label on the unit for more information and requirements.

Make a Plan for the Installation

The fan works best if installed where the least number of elbows and shortest possible duct run is required. This product can also be used with Broan Model 61 and 59.

Ensure to supply the device with the required voltage and the right power cable.

For proper installation, follow these basic steps:

  1. Pin the housing to studs or joints
  2. Connect the ductwork
  3. Attach the power cable
  4. Fix the fan assembly
  5. Attach the grille to the housing

Prepare the Fan

  1. Remove the screw mounting the fan assembly in place.
  2. Disengage knockouts by twisting back and forward to break tabs.
  3. Fix the adjustable bracket channels on the housing. Remember, you can mount the housing directly to the joist using slots and holes available. Fix the brackets for extra support.

Install the Fan

  1. Select where you want to install the fan. Use the least number of elbows and shortest possible duct run for optimum performance.
  2. Place the device between joists and spread the mounting brackets. Fix the brackets in a manner that the bottom edge of the housing flushes with the finished ceiling. On all four mounting brackets, mark the top of the keyhole slot.
  3. Remove the device and strike nails partially into joists at all four marked points.
  4. Suspend the device from nails. Confirm if the product will be flush with the finished ceiling using the measuring guides. Strike nails completely. Use A#8 x 3/8 self-tapping screw for wide joist centers to connect the extended mounting brackets and form a firm mount. Tuck the bracket channels around the mounting brackets to have a noise-free mount.
  5. Fix the duct connector onto the housing and lock the tabs on the connector in housing slots.
  6. Fix a 4” round duct and protrude it outside through the wall cap or the roof. Make sure the damper opens freely. Secure and airtight all duct connections using tape.

Wiring the Fan

  1. Unwrap the wire and remove the unit. Connect the electrical cable directly to the unit. Once the installation is complete, ensure no cable touches the sides or top of the unit. Have the cables into the corner of the unit, then replace the wiring cover.
  2. Reinstall the fan assembly and use a captive screw to screw it. Insert the motor into its place.

Connect the Grille

  1. Connect the night light into the gray slot and the primary light into the other slot.
  2. Connect the grille assembly using two screws provided. Do not overtighten as this may damage the grille.
  3. Pull on one edge to disconnect the lens.
  4. Install the bulbs.
  5. Fix the light lens back.
  6. Turn the power on and check if the fan and light are working properly.

Bulb Replacement

Pull down one edge gently to remove the lens. It is advisable to use bulbs of 100 watts ratings and below for primary light and 7 watts for the night light.

Cleaning

Lens and Grille

  1. Pull down one edge gently to remove the lens, and then remove the grill screws. Lower the unit and unplug the lights.
  2. Clean the plastic parts with mild, soapy water. Dishwashing liquid can do best.
  3. Dry the parts with a soft cloth. DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL PADS, ABRASIVE CLOTH, OR SCOURING POWDERS.

Fan Assembly

  1. Unplug the fan unit.
  2. Remove the captive screw and blower unit from the housing.
  3. Carefully vacuum the motor, fan, and interior of the housing. DO NOT IMMERSE METALLIC AND ELECTRICAL PARTS IN WATER.

Motor Lubrication

The motor comes with permanent lubrication. No extra lubrication is required.
