CAUTION: Do not handle the light bulbs immediately after they are on, as they would be extremely hot. For more information, refer to the packaging of the bulb. For the Broan range hood, use the 120V, 35W halogen bulbs-MR 16 that contains the GU10 base.

Method 1: Exposed LightHouse

1. Turn the light off and then remove the range hood plastic cover. Most of the range hoods have their light bulbs covered with a plastic cover. Squeeze near the socket with a firm grip and then pull the plastic cover out. Set the cover aside as you proceed to replace the bulb. Wash the cover to get rid of the dust and grease that has built up over time using warm soapy water and then dry it off afterwards before reinstalling it.

2. Unscrew the bulb that is burnt out. Wait for a few minutes for the bulb to cool so that it does not burn your hand. Pinch the light bulb at the base where the socket is and then twist it counterclockwise, firmly but gently. Unscrew the light bulb to get it out of the socket.

3. Use a pair of pliers to unscrew the bulb. This applies to those bulbs that are stuck in place. Use needle-nose pliers to grip the base of the bulb while wearing a pair of gloves. When handling a broken bulb, be careful. Place a rag on your range to prevent broken glass from falling into the burners.

4. Remove the bulbs that are below the recommended wattage. Read the wattage on your bulb as well as the information on the bulb that is on the inside of the range hood. The information should guide you on the maximum amount of wattage that is compatible with your range hood. Using bulbs with the right wattage is important. This aids in avoiding temperatures that can damage the plastic cover of the range hood. If the information on the sticker states “75-watt bulb max”, you are required to use a bulb that has 75 watts or less. It is recommended that you use halogen bulbs to highlight a particular spot on the stove. On the other hand, LEDs are the most energy-efficient.

5. Screw the bulb back into the socket. Press the light bulb’s base inside the socket to fit it into the threads. Twist the bulb in a clockwise manner to secure it. Do not tighten the bulb too much since that will cause it to break.

6. Place the cover over the new light bulb. After installing the new bulbs, pop the cover over it and then press on the sides. The plastic cover should go over the light bulb and then pinch the sides of the cover that has tabs. Slide it in place after you have released your grip from it.

Method 2: For a Recessed Light Bulb

1. Turn the light off. Then flip the power off at the circuit breaker point. Changing the light bulb just by turning the power off is quite easy. However, it is recommended that you switch off the circuit breaker so that you can prevent damages that are caused by accidental shorts. Whatever way you choose to do it, turn the light switch off and then let the bulb cool for a few minutes.

2. Push the suction cup tool into the light bulb through the flat lens. The range hood usually comes with a plastic suction cup tool. If it does not come with your unit, you can purchase one at the hardware store or online. Press the suction cup so that the flat lens sticks onto it. If the light bulb fails to stick onto the suction cup, clean the grease off of the bulb to enable the suction cup to stick to it.

3. Turn the tool counterclockwise to unscrew the bulb. On a standard light bulb, there are threads; and in some cases, two pins that stick out of the base. For those bulbs with threads on them, screw them into the socket and then turn counterclockwise until the bulb goes out. For bulbs that contain pins at the base, turn the suction tool to about 60 degrees counterclockwise. The bulb should fall out of the socket without any trouble.

4. Pick a bulb that has the recommended wattage or one that is slightly below it. During the replacement process, it is fine to switch from a LED bulb to a halogen bulb provided the wattage does not exceed the recommended one. If you are not sure about the wattage, the information is found on the outside of the old bulb. This is a guide on what bulb to replace it with. If you want a long-lasting bulb, choose the LED one. If you want a bulb that focuses on a particular area of your range, a halogen bulb would be the most appropriate choice.

5. Press the suction tool on the brand new bulb and screw it clockwise. Remove the suction of the old light bulb and push it into the brand new one. The base of the bulb should be in alignment with the socket. Screw it clockwise. If the bulb contains a threaded base, press it into the socket and then turn it in a suction tool clockwise. For bulbs with two pins at the base, align those pins with the large holes on the socket. Push the bulb inside and then turn it clockwise up to about 60 degrees to secure it.

6.
Flip the circuit breaker back on at the fuse box and then turn the lights back on. This should immediately turn the light bulb on. If it fails to turn on, turn the switch off and the bulb clockwise until it is completely secure. Turn the light back on.
