Phenol Red melts at 71.5-74°C. It is an acid-base indicator. It has a ß-ionone ring. Phenol red, is the hydroxyphenylazo dye. It is partially soluble in water and many organic solvents (such as ethanol), but is extremely soluble in acetone; it grows green in alkaline solutions and red in acidic solutions.

LAMOTTE CHEMICAL 691A-M is a water soluble, yellow colored indicator that detects substances of low acidity. It turns red in presence of pH values below 6.5. The diluted solution is faintly reddish yellow, very sensitive to the slightest traces of proton acids (including HCI, HBr & HI). Acidic solutions containing traces of metal ions, forming salts with phenol red remain yellowish pink due to the formation of complexes. PHENOL RED

LAMOTTE CHEMICAL 6915A-M PHENOL RED is a tetrazolium dye with an absorption maximum of 593 nm in water and a molar absorptivity coefficient of 38018 L m mol-1 cm-1 at pH 7.0 in phosphate buffer. The pH responsiveness of phenol red is such that the dye itself is colorless in acidic solutions, but turns pink when the solution has become alkaline.
