What is a high limit switch for an AC system? A high limit switch is a safety device that controls electricity coming into your air conditioning and heating unit. The device is used to prevent the thermocouples from getting too hot, in this case above 400 degrees. There are three wires that come out of a high limit switch: Black, White, and Brass. The black wire goes to the Texas Terminal and the white wire goes to the New York Terminal on the valve coil. The Brass colored wire is connected or spliced with the bared copper wire on all of the thermocouples in your central air system
