The HSIs are standard on all new AR units, and offer operational advantages over other systems. With a total of ten ignition devices available, the HSIs are intended for installation into existing gas collectors only.

The Ignitor is a full function Hot Surface Ignition (HSI) model incorporating a factory installed FlexIgnitor®. The heater uses a spark ignitor and a gas burner system to ignite the main flame which in turn ignites the heating unit. The heating unit is an integral part of the heater housing with no flue required on this model.

The Rheem Ignitor, with Hot Surface Ignition, has a long-life, high-power igniter for your outdoor gas or electric grill. It lights the grill's burners instantly and reliably. The Rheem Ignitor will outlast any other model on the market and should only need replacing because of arson or lightning strike.

A hot surface ignitor, also known as a hot surface ignition system or HSI is an electrical device used in gas furnaces and boilers. The ignitor uses a resistor to heat a filament (wire) to temperatures in excess of 2000F (1093C). This produces an electric arc that jumps to the pilot burner or main burner electrodes and starts the gas flow.

The hot surface ignition system (HSI) is designed to ignite the burners on gas or propane-fired equipment. The system utilizes a red, gold, and black igniter module in combination with red and black sensing wires.
