Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve (T&P)

This temperature and pressure relief valve (T&P) is manufactured by Rheem to fit Rheem, Ruud, Tempstar, and other brands of water heaters. Replace this important safety device if you see signs of corrosion or leakage.

The RHEEM SP9013 is a solution to the need of having to replace older style pressure relief valves. This T&P Relief Valve kit will replace the existing R290 Relief valve on any Rheem Water Heater manufactured since 1990 until it reaches approximately nine (9) years old. A Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) is a safety device. Its purpose is to protect the water heater and the plumbing system from sudden and dramatic pressure changes in either direction by safely venting off excess gas, steam, or water.

When installed in water heaters manufactured by Rheem, Ruud or their subsidiaries and used with a compatible expansion tank, this Pressure Relief Valve reduces water temperature and relieves excess pressure caused by heating system pressure relief. Please check your owners manual to see if this is an approved T&P valve for your brand of water heater

The Rheem T&P Relief Valve is the most common self-contained water heater relief valve and should be installed as close to the water heater as possible. The valve should remain in the open position unless a fault exists within the water heater.

The RHEEM SP9013E T&P Relief Valve for electric water heaters simplifies the installation and replacement process. The safety relief valve has a 1-5/8 in. between port connections. It is an important component of any water heater, protecting the water heater from being subjected to high pressures and temperatures that could cause damage to the tank and injure people.

The RP9013E RP series T&P Relief Valves are designed for Domestic hot water and steam applications. The relief valve is a direct replacement for the existing RP9054, RP9055, RP9056, RP9057,RP9092, RP9098 models. Features 1/2" NPT drain connection, ASME B74.20.1, UL 498.

If the temperature and pressure relief valve is installed on a water heating system that does not have a pressure limiting device, then the relief valve setting (psi) should be set at 15 psi.
