Time Delay Relay

Time Delay Relays are used in a variety of applications, including pump protection, lighting control and appliance control. Learn more about the wide range of Time Delay Relay products we offer.

The Lennox® Time Delay Relay is a digital time delay relay whose purpose is to accommodate the unique requirements of the installation. There is no time limit on how long air handlers, pumps, motors, etc. will run without cooling or heating a house. The main concern in these situations is that the start up sequence of equipment will minimize unnecessary cycling. Start-up sequence can be controlled by using a Time Delay Relay and Timer Sequence Controller for each device determined by local conditions and installed conditions.

Time Delay Relays will extend compressor run time by allowing the compressor to start once the refrigerant has been suctioned. Remember, it is not the quantity of refrigerant in the system that truly matters, rather it is how long it takes for all of the refrigerant to get into the heating side of the air conditioning unit. This enables the unit to have more time to remove contaminants before starting, which decreases compressor failures, and extends overall unit life.

The Time Delay Relay (TDR) is part of the Thermostat Time Delay Branching System (TTDS). The TDR is used to extend the time that the thermostat runs before turning off to provide heating or cooling energy beyond the time that it takes for the thermostat and heat or cool source to respond.

The Time Delay Relay is used to delay energization of the outdoor compressor start contactor for detecting and eliminating short cycling that may be caused by thermostat swing. When starting a chilled water system, initial compressor load can cause slight temperature changes in the zone set point.

Have you ever had to wait a couple of minutes for a device to turn on? Maybe your Christmas lights don't become illuminated until after it gets dark. Or maybe you want to make sure that your gas fireplace turns on and off at the right times, without a human adjustment. A time delay relay is just what you need. This is only one 12 Volt relay, but the concept can be expanded to as many relays as needed by using additional wiring and relays in parallel.

The Time Delay Relay is used to control a load that should not be energized for a predetermined period of time after the controller becomes active or before the controller becomes inactive. Time delays are critical in many motor protection applications. Delays help prevent short circuits when motors are started.
