The Rheem Protech 171063 Expansion Valve (TXV) w/Bleed Port is designed for use with the Rheem Minuteman II and Quadra-Therm XL indsiustrial series gas water heaters. It helps maintain optimal water temperatures within the heater in order to keep your hot water at the right temperature.

The Protech Expansion Valve combines performance, simplicity and efficiency with a cost effective design and hassle free operation. The Protech Expansion Valve incorporates high quality anti-corrosion components, proprietary ASSYSEAL liquid seal, water hammer reducing relief valve and stainless steel bleed port. This valve is designed for a wide range of residential air conditioning, heat pump and chiller applications.

The expansion valve on your Rinnai tankless water heater is designed to sense increases in volume, and when the volume of water flowing through your unit exceed its capacity, it provides a boost in pressure that helps prevent scalding. The expansion valve is equipped with bleed ports that allow you to adjust for both high and low temperatures so that you can maintain a desired temperature without affecting the flow rate. The expansion valve is also designed to take up less room than other types of systems using pressure switches.

This Outdoor Air Expansion Valve allows for the installation of a heat pump or air conditioning system when outdoor temperatures never go below 40ºF (4ºC). It is designed for use with an indoor air handler such as a furnace, packaged unit, or air conditioner. The expansion valve is equipped with an internal temperature sensor requiring no external communications to the system. The bleed port provides added safety in case of system failure. When installed properly, it will not freeze over and is capable of handling sustained outdoor temperatures down to 20ºF (-6°C).
