The Nordyne 626491R Defrost Sensor for refrigerators is a replacement part designed to fit standard 2-4 door refrigerators. The defrost sensor is connected to the AC winding of your refrigerator’s compressor motor. It senses heat from the evaporator coil and activates the compressor when it detects the mixture of warm and cold air, indicating that it is time to defrost. When the sensor fails, defrost cycles are not completed resulting in ice buildup in the coils and freezer burn in the freezer section of your refrigerator. Installation requires no additional hardware and should be done by an experienced professional.

The Defrost Sensor will monitor the frost on the evaporator coil and automatically shut the system off when it gets less than 3/32" thick. The Defrost Sensor is a compromise between a regular defrost timer, which delays defrosting until frost is predicted to be at least 1/8" thick, and completely continuous defrost systems that use small amounts of water whenever frost is detected.
