The Rheem 171072/Protech - Expansion Valve TXV w/Bleed Port is designed for Rheem AC or Heat Pump models manufactured in 2007 or later. It will help your condensate system bring down the temperature of discharge air, thus reducing the possibility of damage to your evaporator coil. The expansion valve is designed to be installed in-line on the liquid discharge line of your condensing unit.

TXV-Series heat pump expansion valves from Rheem are designed to help protect your system against potentially damaging high pressure. When the cooling demand of your home increases and the temperature drops, the heating component of your heat pump turns on to satisfy cooling requirements. The TXV allows extra cool air into the evaporator coil, providing more heat and increasing the temperature within the system. If excessive high pressure occurs, these valves can bleed out refrigerant through a bleed port to reduce potential damage caused by overcharging.
