A temperature and pressure relief valve (or T&P) is designed to automatically release the pressure in a hot water or steam system. The valve opens at a preset temperature. If the system continues to heat and the pressure rises, the temperature will continue to rise till it reaches the second set point. The RHEEM AP12993C temperature and pressure relief valve (T&P) is a safety device used for protecting the piping system, drain trap and sewer from overload and backsplash. The T&P valve is designed to route flow to a drip-pan before discharging into the ground.

Call your Rheem Dealer if you have any of the following conditions: * There is a yellow blockage preventing fluid from escaping the tank. * The T&P valve is leaking. Repair should not be attempted by the homeowner. Call a qualified service technician. (See Service Instructions) * There is a yellow blockage or damaged threads on the tank vent pipe, except when replacing o-ring as indicated in installation instructions.

This Rheem RAA Series T & P Valve is designed for use with gas-fired outdoor heaters to reduce the likelihood of a forced venting episode caused by an overheated component of the heating appliance.
